Before enrolling in Transcribe Anywhere I had been working for a major corporation for about 20 years. At one point, I had really enjoyed the work, but after 20 years, I was bored and feeling burned out. The job itself was changing, too, and I knew it was time to find something else to do. I didn't know what exactly I wanted to do, but I had always wanted to work from home and make my own schedule. That was incredibly important to me! I started researching different paths, and I stumbled upon transcription. I knew as soon as I discovered it that it was the right path for me! All of the skills they say make for a good transcriptionist described me to a T, like being detail-oriented, having a strong command of vocabulary and punctuation, and being self-motivated. I enrolled first in the general transcription course and then the legal transcription course.
There were so many benefits that came from doing the training. Obviously, it helped me learn the necessary skills I would need, and I feel like I learned them much faster than I would have if I'd just tried to do this on my own. I was able to contract with a company before I had even finished the legal transcription course. The company was looking for a transcriptionist with experience, but I applied anyway because I could honestly say that I had experience with everything they were looking for, such as using different programs, strict versus standard verbatim, time stamping, etc. That gave me a huge confidence boost!
Other benefits included being able to transition to fulltime transcription work during Covid/quarantine. My job was furloughed for over two months, and while they did provide a percentage of my salary, I began working fulltime in transcription to make up the difference. The biggest benefit of all was that that time allowed me to see that I could make the same, if not more, money than I had been making, and I eventually left the corporate job to transcribe fulltime. Now, I make my own schedule. I can work the hours and days I want. As long as I finish my jobs on time, nobody cares if I work at 5 a.m. or 5 p.m. or if I work four hours a day or nine. If I'm sick, or the dogs need to go to the vet, or we need to schedule the plumber to come, it's so easy to do now. Having freedom over your life in that way is a game changer!
I have been transcribing fulltime now for 5 years. I contract with two companies, and I also have two private clients. Most of the work I do is for the private clients, and then I supplement as needed with the companies. There are no time requirements from either, so I can prioritize the clients. I have more than enough work to keep me busy. Now, instead of working 40 hours a week, I typically work between 30 and 34, and I make more money than I ever did at the corporate job.
Transcribe Anywhere truly changed my life. It often sounds trite when people say that, but if I hadn't gained the skills they teach, I never would have felt comfortable applying with that first company. That's what changed the trajectory of my life.
I'm a million times happier than I was when I enrolled in early 2019!
